DIVERSITY: THE LIFE-BREATH

Dear friend,

Early morning the first thing we do is to brush our teeth. We do not know who manufactured the tooth brush that we are using, nor we know where the tooth paste came from. We bought them from the same nearby store. Likewise, the water that we use was disinfected, pumped to our house, the pipeline, taps fitted by unknown men. We use them without bothering about who really were responsible for these works.

Similarly, an unsung village farmer from an unknown corner of the country has grown the cereals, vegetables and the fruits that have found place in our kitchen. We are not concerned about who the farmer is and the hardship he faced to produce them. We just pay money and get them all. In fact, we depend on others for all our needs because, we cannot manufacture or grow them for ourselves. Starting from a tiny pin to the television, from a small screw to a car, somewhere, somebody have created them for us. Ultimately they become an inseparable part of our life. 

We are so accustomed to these things that we cannot imagine our life without them. Each thing is produced in accordance with our demands and requirements. Our life becomes miserable even if one of these links is cut off; life turns into chaos and ultimately our life may cease!

In this system, every one knows his obligations and responsibilities. He also is proud that without his role, the society is put to distress. Lastly he is also aware that if he minds, he can make the life of his cohabitants miserable.

Now I will take you to another world: Visualise a dense forest. There wanders a wildboar. It is night and the boar is in search of its food. It digs the ground hither and thither to find the roots and tubers. Early next morning a deer comes along grazing and drops it dung allover. There is a tall plum tree nearby. With full of fruits, it attracts birds and animals. A Hornbill devours the plums and rushes to his family, locked inside the tree hole nest, to feed them. He evacuates his bowel on his way and the seeds drop to the ground. Likewise, a monkey spits a mango seed closeby.

Some days later, there is a cloudburst and the whole land is dampened by the life-giving water. The seeds miraculously spring into action. They sprout, grow and become large trees. The whole wood gets filled with a variety of plants and trees. In this whole natural process, none of the animals -- the wildboar or porcupine, deer or gaur, hornbill or monkey -- know that they are responsible for the emergence of the magnificent forest! Each and every animal in the wild, participates in this endeavour selflessly. They never celebrate their achievement! 

In Nature, every life form bestows its might for the healthy coexistence and contributes to make it rich and diverse, considered by Nature to be important and desirable.

With greed, selfishness and cruelty only humans have the ability to halt this process. If we do not interfere in this sustained natural phenomenon everything remains beautiful for our future generations.

Let us join hands to make our only Earth, a place where all elements of life can live in health, happiness and harmony. Thank you.         

              
Special Wildlife Messenger of This Year

Golden Oriole (Oriolus oriolus): These attractive birds are slim, bright golden yellow birds which live among the leaves of big trees. Females have dull yellowish-green body. Rather shy birds, despite their gaudy colour, usually they are more heard rather than seen. Their flight is attractive: rapid, strong and undulating. The voice is a melodious fluty, moist pee.loo.loo. They build a hammock-like nest in the fork of a tall tree, with grass and fibre, bound by cobweb.

Total of hand-painted cards made: this year 2015; in 34 years 68,445. Total recipients: this year 1,270; in 34 years 12,004.

ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆ: ಜೀವದ ಉಸಿರು

ಮಿತ್ರರೆ,

ನಾವು ಪ್ರತಿದಿನ ಬೆಳಿಗ್ಗೆ ಎದ್ದು ಮೊದಲು ಹಲ್ಲುಜ್ಜುತ್ತೇವಲ್ಲ, ನಾವು ಬಳಸುವ ಟೂತ್‌ಬ್ರಶ್ ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೋ ತಯಾರಾಗಿರುತ್ತದೆ, ಟೂತ್‌ಪೇಸ್ಟನ್ನು ಇನ್ನಾರೋ ತಯಾರಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅವೆರಡನ್ನೂ ನಾವು ಒಂದೇ ಅಂಗಡಿಯಿಂದ ಕೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತೇವೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ನಾವು ಬಳಸುವ ನೀರಿನ ಶುದ್ಧೀಕರಣ, ಅದರ ಸರಬರಾಜು, ಪೈಪುಗಳ ಅಳವಡಿಕೆ, ನಲ್ಲಿ ಇವೆಲ್ಲ ಯಾರು ಯಾರೋ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಜೋಡಿಸಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಅದರ ಯಾವುದೇ ಗೋಜಿಗೆ ಹೋಗದೆ ನಾವು ಅವನ್ನೆಲ್ಲ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತೇವೆ. 

ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ ದೇಶದ ಯಾವುದೋ ಮೂಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅಪರಿಚಿತ ರೈತನೊಬ್ಬ ತನ್ನ ಬೆವರು ಸುರಿಸಿ ಬೆಳೆದ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಧಾನ್ಯವೂ, ತರಕಾರಿ-ಹಣ್ಣು ಹಂಪಲುಗಳೂ ನಮ್ಮ ಮನೆ ಸೇರಿರುತ್ತದೆ. ಇವುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವೊಂದು ವಸ್ತುವಿನ ಮೂಲವನ್ನಾಗಲೀ, ಅದನ್ನು ಬೆಳೆಯಲು ಆ ರೈತನು ಪಟ್ಟ ಪರಿಶ್ರಮವನ್ನಾಗಲೀ, ನಾವು ಆಲೋಚಿಸುವುದೇ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಯಾವುದೇ ಒಂದನ್ನೂ ನಾವು ತಯಾರಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳಲು ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಈ ಎಲ್ಲ ವಸ್ತುಗಳೂ ಹಣ ಕೊಟ್ಟೊಡನೆ ನಮಗೆ ದೊರಕುತ್ತವೆ. ಒಂದು ಸೂಜಿಯಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಟಿವಿಯವರೆಗೆ, ಒಂದು ಸ್ಕ್ರೂನಿಂದ ಹಿಡಿದು ಕಾರಿನವರೆಗೆ, ಯಾರೋ, ಎಲ್ಲಿಯೋ, ಯಾವಾಗಲೋ ತಯಾರು ಮಾಡಿದ ವಸ್ತುಗಳು ನಮ್ಮ ದೈನಂದಿನ ಜೀವನದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಸುಹೊಕ್ಕಾಗಿರುತ್ತವೆ; ನಮ್ಮ ಬದುಕಿನ ಅವಿಭಾಜ್ಯ ಅಂಗವೇ ಆಗಿಬಿಟ್ಟಿರುತ್ತವೆ.

ನಾವು ಈ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಗೆ ಎಷ್ಟು ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೇವೆಂದರೆ ಅವುಗಳು ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಜೀವನ ಊಹಿಸಿಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದಕ್ಕೂ ಸಾಧ್ಯವಿಲ್ಲ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲರೂ ಇತರರ ಬೇಕು-ಬೇಡಿಕೆಗಳಿಗನುಸಾರವಾಗಿ ತಮ್ಮ ವಸ್ತುಗಳನ್ನು ಉತ್ಪಾದಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಯಾವುದಾದರೂ ಒಂದು ಕೊಂಡಿ ಕಳಚಿ ಹೋದರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ದಿನಚರಿ ಅಸ್ತವ್ಯಸ್ತಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ; ಅಲ್ಲೋಲ ಕಲ್ಲೋಲವಾಗಿಬಿಡುತ್ತದೆ; ಕೊನೆಗೆ ಜೀವನವೇ ಸ್ತಬ್ದಗೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.

ಈ ವ್ಯವಸ್ಥೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಬ್ಬನಿಗೂ ತನ್ನ ಪಾತ್ರದ-ಜವಾಬ್ದಾರಿಯ ತಿಳಿವು, ತಾನಿಲ್ಲದಿದ್ದರೆ ಸಮಾಜದಲ್ಲಿ ಏರುಪೇರಾಗುವುದೆಂಬ ಅರಿವು ಇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ತಾನು ಅಂತಹ ಪರಿಸ್ಥಿತಿಯನ್ನು ಉಂಟುಮಾಡಬಹುದು ಎಂಬ ಗರ್ವವೂ ಸೇರಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತದೆ.  

ಈಗ ನಿಮ್ಮ ಮುಂದೆ ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಚಿತ್ರಣವನ್ನಿಡುತ್ತೇನೆ: ಒಂದು ದಟ್ಟವಾದ ಅಡವಿ; ಅಲ್ಲೊಂದು ಕಾಡುಹಂದಿ. ಇರುಳಿನ ವೇಳೆ ಆಹಾರವನರಸುತ್ತ ಆ ಹಂದಿ ಅಲ್ಲಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಲವನ್ನು ಬಗೆಬಗೆದು ಗೆಡ್ಡೆ-ಗೆಣಸುಗಳನ್ನು ತಿನ್ನುತ್ತದೆ. ಮರುದಿನ ಮುಂಜಾವು ಹುಲ್ಲು ಮೇಯುತ್ತ ಬರುವ ಒಂದು ಜಿಂಕೆ ಅಲ್ಲೆಲ್ಲ ಸೆಗಣಿಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕುತ್ತಾ ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಲ್ಲೇ ಪಕ್ಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಗಿಲೆತ್ತರಕ್ಕೆ ಬೆಳೆದ ಒಂದು ಧೂಪದ ಮರ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳಿಂದ ತುಂಬಿ ಪ್ರಾಣಿ-ಪಕ್ಷಿಗಳನ್ನು ಆಕರ್ಷಿಸುತ್ತಿದೆ. ಆ ಹಣ್ಣನ್ನು ತಿಂದ ಒಂದು ಗಂಡು ಮಂಗಟ್ಟೆ ಹಕ್ಕಿ, ಗೂಡಿನಲ್ಲಿ ತನಗೇ ಕಾಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಪತ್ನಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಆಹಾರವನ್ನು ಒಯ್ಯುತ್ತಾ, ಮೇಲಿನಿಂದಲೇ ಹಿಕ್ಕೆಯನ್ನು ಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೀಗೆ ಧೂಪದ ಮರದ ಬೀಜವೊಂದು ನೆಲ ಸೇರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ ಕಪಿಯೊಂದು ತಾನು ತಿಂದ ಮಾವಿನ ಗೊರಟನ್ನು ಉಗಿದುಹೋಗುತ್ತದೆ.

ಮುಂದೊಂದು ದಿನ ಆಕಾಶದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಚರಿಸುವ ಮೋಡವೊಂದು ಹನಿ ಮಳೆಗರೆದು ಇಡೀ ಕಾನನವನ್ನು ತೋಯಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಫಲವತ್ತಾದ ಭೂಮಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಬಿದ್ದ ಒಂದೊಂದು ಬೀಜವೂ ಮೊಳಕೆಯೊಡೆದು, ಗಿಡವಾಗಿ, ಹೆಮ್ಮರವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಇಡೀ ಕಾಡು ವಿಧವಿಧದ ಸಸ್ಯಗಳಿಂದ ಕಂಗೊಳಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ನೈಸರ್ಗಿಕ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಾಡುಹಂದಿಗಾಗಲೀ, ಜಿಂಕೆ-ಕಡವೆಗಳಿಗಾಗಲೀ, ಮಂಗಟ್ಟೆ-ಕಪಿಗೇ ಆಗಲೀ, ತಾವು ಒಂದು ಅದ್ಭುತವಾದ ಸಾಧನೆ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದೇವೆಂದು ತಿಳಿದೇ ಇರುವುದಿಲ್ಲ; ಯಾವೊಂದು ಜೀವಿಯೂ ತನ್ನಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ಕಾರ್ಯ ನಡೆದಿದೆ ಎಂದು ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯಿಂದ ಬೀಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ. ಯಾವುದೇ ಪ್ರತಿಫಲಾಪೇಕ್ಷೆಯಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಈ ಪ್ರಕ್ರಿಯೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಭಾಗವಹಿಸುತ್ತವೆ! ನಿಸರ್ಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಪ್ರತಿಯೊಂದು ಜೀವಿಯೂ ಒಂದಕ್ಕೊಂದು ಪೂರಕವಾಗಿ, ನಿಸ್ಪೃಹತೆಯಿಂದ ತನ್ನ ಪಾತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಿಭಾಯಿಸಿ, ಇಳೆಯ ಇಡೀ ಜೀವಸಂಕುಲ ಯಾವುದೇ ಅಡೆತಡೆಗಳಿಲ್ಲದೆ ಬಾಳಾಟ ನಡೆಸಲು ಅನುವು ಮಾಡಿಕೊಡುತ್ತದೆ.

ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನಡೆಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಈ ವಿಸ್ಮಯಕಾರಿ, ಸ್ವಾಭಾವಿಕ ಕಾರ್ಯಗತಿಯನ್ನು ತಡೆಯಬಲ್ಲ ವಿಕೃತಶಕ್ತಿ ಇರುವುದು ಮಾನವನಿಗೊಬ್ಬನಿಗೆ ಮಾತ್ರ. ಸ್ವಾರ್ಥ-ದುರಾಸೆ-ಕ್ರೌರ್ಯಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಟ್ಟು, ಜೀವ ವೈವಿಧ್ಯತೆಯಿಂದ ಕೂಡಿದ ನಿತ್ಯಸುಂದರ ಭೂಮಿಯನ್ನು ಮುಂದಿನ ತಲೆಮಾರುಗಳಿಗೆ ತಲುಪಿಸುವುದು ನಮ್ಮ ಕರ್ತವ್ಯವಾಗಿದೆ. 

           

ಬನ್ನಿ, ನಾವೆಲ್ಲ ಕೈಗೂಡಿಸೋಣ. ಜಗತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಜೀವದ ಪ್ರತಿ ಅಣುಅಣುವೂ ಸುಖದಿಂದ, ಶಾಂತಿಯಿಂದ, ಸಹಬಾಳ್ವೆ ನಡೆಸುವಂತೆ ಮಾಡೋಣ. ವಂದನೆಗಳು. 

  

ಈ ವರ್ಷದ ವಿಶೇಷ ವನ್ಯಜೀವಿ ಸಂದೇಶವಾಹಕ

ಹೊನ್ನಕ್ಕಿ: ಉಜ್ವಲ ಹೊನ್ನಿನ ಬಣ್ಣದ, ಸಪೂರವಾದ ದೇಹದ, ನಾಚಿಕೆ ಸ್ವಭಾವದ, ಮರದ ಮೇಲೆ ವಾಸಿಸುವ ಹಕ್ಕಿ. ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳಿಗೆ ತುಸು ಹಸುರುಮಿಶ್ರಿತ ದೇಹ. ಜೋಡಿಯಾಗಿ ಮರದ ಎಲೆಗಳ ಮರೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಅವಿತುಕೊಳ್ಳುವುದರಿಂದ ಈ ಹಕ್ಕಿಗಳನ್ನು ನಾವು ಕಾಣುವುದಕ್ಕಿಂತ ಕೇಳುವುದೇ ಹೆಚ್ಚು. ಆಲ-ಅರಳಿ-ಅತ್ತಿ ಹಣ್ಣುಗಳು, ಮಕರಂದ, ಕೀಟಗಳು ಇವುಗಳ ಆಹಾರ. ಇಂಪಾದ ಕೊಳಲಿನ ಪೀ.ಲೂ..ಲೂ ಸ್ವರ. ಮರದ ತುದಿ-ಕವಲುಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಹುಲ್ಲು-ನಾರು-ಬೇರುಗಳಿಂದ ನೇಯ್ದ ಸುಂದರವಾದ ತೂಗುಯ್ಯಾಲೆ ಗೂಡು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತವೆ. 

ಕೈಯಲ್ಲೇ ಚಿತ್ರಿಸಿದ ಒಟ್ಟು ಸಂದೇಶಪತ್ರಗಳ ಸಂಖ್ಯೆ: ಈ ವರ್ಷ೨೦೧೫; ಕಳೆದ ೩೪ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ೬೮,೪೪೫.

ಸಂದೇಶಪತ್ರಗಳನ್ನು ಪಡೆದವರು: ಈ ವರ್ಷ ೧,೨೭೦; ಕಳೆದ ೩೪ ವರ್ಷಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ೧೨,೦೦೪. 

ದಯವಿಟ್ಟು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಅಂಚೆಚೀಟಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಳುಹಿಸಿ, ನನ್ನ ಅಂಚೆವೆಚ್ಚವನ್ನು ತಗ್ಗಿಸಲು ಸಹಕರಿಸಿ.
